However, it is slightly larger than many of the other vaporizers in this class. The look of the QuickDraw 00 is extremely stylish and sleek. This means that you no longer have to wait in order to begin a session. This specific vaporizer has been created to sense what the user is vaping and will proceed to heat up quickly to the desired temperature. The QuickDraw is considered very easy when it comes to loading. This particular vaporizer only comes with a low 1-year warranty, which is actually shorter when compared to many of the other vaporizers in the same class. On the good side the mouthpiece on the QuickDraw does not have a bad effect on the flavor but using the same material for more than one session will definitely produce a bad flavor in the mouth. When it comes to a portable vaporizer a plastic mouthpiece has the ability to either produce a good or bad flavor and the QuickDraw is made out of plastic. Leaving behind the material in the chambers and later returning to vape has the ability to produce a poor taste. In order to achieve a flavorful vapor, it is advisable to complete a session in a single sitting. It is better or comparable to the vaporizers that retail for the same or similar price regardless of the different heating chambers used to vape. When it comes to vapor quality, the QuickDraw offers a satisfactory result. However, when taking into consideration that when purchasing separate wax vaporizers, herbal vaporizers and oil vaporizers and all the functions you can achieve with the QuickDraw, it makes it well worth its price. The QuickDraw 500 retails for about $200 that makes it more affordable to several other models, but also more expensive than a few of economy portables available today. But the user-friendly manual can help one to get back to all the settings pretty easily. When taking time away from the QuickDraw it can take a while to get used to the functions again. An example of this: if the user has a variety of portable vaporizers that they like to use. Having just a single button when using a vaporizer has the ability to make life much easier, however, it can become a bit confusing if the user forgets the various button sequences. These instructions are only when using the “herbal cartridge.” In order to go through the various heating temperatures, all that is required is to push the button two times and then a final tap once the desired lighting sequence displays in order to stay in that position. In order to power up the device the button needs to be held in for a count of three seconds, this same rule applies for shutting the device down. Similar to the iPhone, QuickDraw 500 revolves around just a single button. The design has actually been considered to be one of the top designs when it comes to portable vaporizers. Many vaping fans are impressed by the design aspects of the QuickDraw 500. The D 500 Cartridge designed for the use of aromatic blends. The L 500 Cartridge designed for the use of liquids. The X 500 Cartridge designed for the use of solid concentrates. Here is some information on this highly rated vaping pen. However, to this date, there has not been much when considering multi-functional portable and high-quality vaporizer options.īut the QuickDraw 500 is a portable option that acts as a dry herb, wax or oil vaporizer. This song-and-dance is fine-surely you’ve seen it done so many times at networking events. He carries himself with the confidence of a seasoned businessman-or a veteran insurance salesman.Īs he enters the RICE office, Ze Yang gets to work by walking up to every single person he comes across to introduce himself. Ze Yang is wearing a Steve Jobs-esque turtleneck under a navy blue blazer on a hot and humid Wednesday afternoon. I need to figure out why this teen boasts the confidence the rest of us lack. Many of us want to be wealthy, but none would declare it so publicly and confidently-especially at 16. On the other hand, it’s this dissonance between his lofty goals and actual execution that draws flak in his comment sections. Ze Yang is self-assured and knows what he wants in life, which is more than what we can say for many his age, or even adults. It’s inspiring and impressive on the one hand. In a similar vein, many of the characters who appear to be morally just usually aren’t and the third car of the train is full of trolls that fit this bill. Their traumatic experiences with the system have made them bitterly nonchalant, staying out of anything that doesn’t concern them, even if their knowledge and abilities could be a massive help. Though Cirava is one of the more laidback and friendly trolls Joey encounters, they’re definitely the most apathetic. In order to avoid this, Cirava gouged out their own eye to limit their abilities, making them a less desirable power source. While this does make them extremely powerful, it also dooms them to a future life as, essentially, a living battery for the planet’s ruler. They have psionic abilities, a trait exclusive to their caste. As any oppressive system does, this makes some of the characters you meet a little disenchanted with their general existence and purpose. This spectrum does not only determine a troll’s social standing, but also determines their future professions and general lifespan. Each troll rests somewhere on a hemospectrum-a social hierarchy based on blood colour, with burgundy being the lowest class and fuchsia being the highest. The player will quickly learn from Xefros that this planet’s society is a rather brutal one. Products of SocietyĪs I said, Hiveswap’s cast is made up of some real unsavoury characters, but it’s important we understand why they might act the way they do. The majority of the second Act takes place on this train, moving from the caboose to the conductor’s car, completing tasks and getting to know different trolls along the way. After meeting up outside the young troll’s house (or ‘hive’), the two head out to catch a train in hopes of meeting someone who can help Joey get back home. Xefros also acts as a valuable exposition dump throughout the two Acts, introducing Joey to the ins-and-outs of Alternian culture and society. Within literal minutes of being stranded on this new world, she finds herself in contact with Xefros-our second playable character and the first of many aliens (the game’s official term is ‘trolls’), we’ll meet as the game goes on. After exploring the household, literally dancing some creatures to death, and taking part in some point-and-click shenanigans, Joey ends up being transported to the planet of Alternia. You play as Joey Claire, an average 14-year-old whose home suddenly gets invaded by monsters. I’m here to tell you why that’s a good thing. They lie, they deceive, and they go out of their way to hurt others. Not terrible as in badly written, but terrible as in none of them are good people. However, much like its divisive source material, Hiveswap’s most compelling aspect is its large cast of unusual characters and how all of them all terrible. The game is a pleasant experience from start to finish with gorgeous visuals, a fun, catchy soundtrack, and genre-typical puzzles that really get you thinking. So far only two ‘Acts’ of the game have been released, but it’s already looking promising. This is why I found Hiveswap (2020) to be particularly interesting.ĭeveloped by WhatPumpkin games, founded by Homestuck creator Andrew Hussie, Hiveswap is a point-and-click adventure set in the same universe as the aforementioned, equally loved and detested webcomic. Archetypes like these are important as they help players not only get an idea of where the story is going, but also develop those precious player-character bonds. Like most things, these casts usually fit into a set of archetypes: the optimistic protagonist, the nerd, the morally ambivalent antihero and, of course, the villain. We grow attached to them, see ourselves in them, and may even aspire to be like them. If video games were a metaphorical cake, the characters would be the cherries on top. *DISCLAIMER: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS STORY SPOILERS FOR HIVESWAP ACTS 1 & 2* It was a touchstone of all the things they heard were going on in California and in a few other hip pockets of the country, a cool place to hang among like-minded people, maybe score some drugs, and have a good time. The Vulcan functioned as more than a music venue to the regulars who frequented the place. The Texas blues institutions Lightnin' Hopkins and Mance Lipscomb appeared so frequently they were regarded as family. Hyde brought in blues players Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Big Joe Williams, and John Lee Hooker- who requested Mexican food when Hyde picked him up at the bus station. Touring bands such as Steve Miller and the Velvet Underground, and bands that rarely toured, like the Fugs, an obscenity-slinging New York street band led by poet Ed Sanders (who were barely known outside Greenwich Village), played the Vulcan in front of full houses. Their slash-and-burn single "You're Gonna Miss Me" actually snuck onto the Top 40 pop music chart, and they sold out the club three nights in a row before the band fell apart. The Vulcan became home to a wide array of bands, including the Thirteenth Floor Elevators, the first psychedelic band anywhere, led by a Travis High School dropout named Roky Erickson and Tommy Hall, a UT philosophy major who played electric jug. Doug Brown and George Majewski helped set up concessions. Joining Hyde in running the Vulcan were Houston White, Gary Maxwell-Scanlon, and Sandy Lockett. The Vulcan featured live music and psychedelic light shows with the unspoken understanding that the music and the lights were a whole lot more fun under the influence of LSD, which Hyde had plenty of - particularly the Clearlight, or Windowpane, variety. He decided to try to replicate what he saw going on in San Francisco by opening the Vulcan Gas Company in a former dry goods store at 316 Congress Avenue, the low-rent part of the grand avenue, in the fall of 1967. Why slave and toil in the blazing July heat when you could be immersed in the clear, cool sixty-eight degree artesian waters of Barton Springs, the soul of Austin and its wellspring of cool?ĭon Hyde traded mescaline for the last of the high-quality batch of White Lightning LSD that had been made for the Human Be-In in 1967, one of several events where crowds converged to hear live music and trip on hallucinatory acid. Compared to those places, Austin sometimes felt so downright idyllic that work could be distracting. People in Dallas and Houston worked harder, Austinites liked to reason, because those places were so butt-ugly there was nothing worth looking at, much less playing in, so a person might just as well keep their nose to the grindstone. Overall, the climate was tolerable enough - and the hills, woodlands, creeks, rivers, and lakes of Austin were inviting enough - that locals responded to the environment in a manner that seemingly escaped folks living elsewhere in Texas. Whenever heavy rains fell on the rocky undulating hills west of Austin, the steep terrain transformed in a matter of minutes into Flash-Flood Alley, one of the most dangerous flood-prone areas of the United States. The Hill Country's Swiss-cheese-like karst topography harbored an abundance of caves and underground pools that emerged at the surface in the forms of artesian springs that fed the region's extensive system of creeks and rivers. Oaks flourished in the thin layer of soil that covered the limestone and granite subsurface of the region. The Balcones Fault uplift, where the landmass rose abruptly out of the coastal plain, began less than a mile west of the capitol. The landscape in and around Austin could be described as pretty, an adjective not often used to describe the natural surroundings of Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, Midland, Lubbock, Port Arthur, or other Texas cities - even San Antonio.Īustin looked like nowhere else in this particular corner of the world because it was where five distinct eco-regions converged - the Edwards Plateau, South Texas Brush Country, Western Gulf Coastal Plain, Texas Blackland Prairie, and East Texas Woodlands. You then need to use a scrub brush to 'agitate' the solution, and it lifted up an amazing amount of grime. Essentially, you squeeze the bottle, aiming for the grout lines, but in reality, it's a little hard to control, but eventually finds its way to the recessed grout lines, and then let it sit. I had tried many different methods to clean the grout, with limited or no success, so I gave this product a whirl, and was very pleased with the results. Promising review: "I have a white tile floor and I was pretty sure the grout was white also, but it was hard to tell since it was so dirty. It's nothing short of miraculous." - Chloe I will always use this (and my brushes will always be clean!). It took out weeks of caked-on 24-hour concealer and foundation, and left my brush soft and fluffy like it were brand new. This cleaned my brushes like nothing else, with just a drop, a few seconds of spreading it around, and literally about 10 seconds of swishing in warm water. Promising review: "I've been skeptical about items that seem like glorified soap but got it as a gift. And the bristles are always left as soft as before too! You'll see the water start running brown immediately, which is always super gross but also really satisfying, and once you see your brush return to its original color, you know you're done. I just add a bit of the shampoo to my brush and gently rub it against a silicone mat under running water, and it makes quick work of removing all the makeup that's built up on my brush for, frankly, way too long. I've used Ecotools brush cleaning shampoo for years, and it makes cleaning my brushes so much easier. This shampoo is hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and paraben-free. Afterward, you'll just dump out the hair that's been trapped inside. It's important to do a push-and-pull brushing in *both* directions so it actually pulls the hair inside, which does require you to apply a bit of pressure. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of using this roller - at first, I thought you only brushed down in one direction, and was confused why it wasn't picking up hair. It took 10 seconds to rid my velvet couch ottoman (yes, velvet.a terrible cat owner choice, I know) of the hair my two gray kitties are constantly leaving everywhere.
